Why Creation Matters....

Lately I have had a renewed interest in the creation account as recorded in Genesis chapters 1-11. I have been especially excited about the opening of the Creation Museum in Kentucky by Ken Ham. I have a link to his site, answersingenesis.com in the sidebar as well. I recently received their quarterly magazine, Answers, which had several in depth articles about the global flood of Noah's day. It struck a familiar cord in me as many years ago (while still a teen) I read the book, "The Genesis Flood" by Henry Morris. It saddens me that so many in our present society (myself included) have been thoroughly and profoundly steeped in evolutionary thinking. Unfortunately, many people (especially the young folk in society) just simply accept that evolution is a "fact" and the "earth is millions of years old" theory as true. Most people today are not aware that there are very valid scientific accounts that are CONSISTENT with creation---but this is not taught nor is it very much discussed in most schools let alone churches these days. It seems the church has widely given up the "fight" and instead of holding to the fact that the Bible is true and thoroughly accurate, rather we have sought to "accomodate" and "adjust" our teachings to make room for evolutionary thought which is pretty much presented as fact these days.

We have accepted "cartoonish" presentations of the Ark of Noah (even in our Sunday School publications) and really don't realize that the Ark was actually a very massive project (which Noah may or may not have had help building---the Bible doesn't say whether he used "contractors" etc) And the Ark actually had room for many more to be saved besides Noah and his family. However, as the Biblical record indicates no one other than Noah and his family adhered to God's command to flee from the coming judgement.  Interestingly, the Bible also states that once Noah and his family were on the Ark, it was another 7 days before the flood actually began---and the Bible says that "the Lord shut [Noah} in"...in other words, Noah and his family entered the Ark of safety but the LORD shut the door. This has implications in our day because once again judgement is quickly approaching the earth and the Lord's invitation to salvation (through Christ---our "Ark of safety") has been extended. However, most of society, just as in Noah's day, is AWARE of the "ark of safety that is Christ" but many refuse to repent, believe and be saved from the coming wrath. And very soon "the Lord will shut the door".

So, the creation account is important because it shows us a picture of even our present time. And as we realize that it is NOT just simply some "sunday school story" that we learned as children but a REAL, SCIENTIFIC, HISTORICAL FACT the implications become even more overwhelming. I encourage all believers (especially families) to plan a vacation to visit and support the creation museum. Also, check out the answersingenesis site and the works of Ken Ham as well as the video below (very informative)---i think you'll be encouraged to see that our confidence in the Biblical account of creation rests on VERY SOLID ground! So the next time you look at the grand canyon, the fossil record, the dinosaur record, or any other evidence God has left us from this great catastrophic event---think about the implications: that God is STILL angry at sin, HE WILL judge sin severely, and yet today is the day to "get on the Ark of Safety" (Jesus Christ--who took the punishment for sin)---before it's too late.
